First, We Map It
Early sessions are about the patterns themselves — across relationships, across years — and what they're connected to. No jargon, no judgment. Just an honest look, together, at what's actually happening.
"We don't see things as they are; we see them as we are." — Anaïs Nin
If the same painful patterns keep showing up — in your relationships, your emotions, your sense of who you are — you're not beyond help, and you're not your label. These patterns developed for reasons, and with steady, honest work, they can change. I'm Edward Davey (RSW, MSW), and I'll be in your corner for that work.
Maybe relationships swing between intense closeness and painful blowups. Maybe your emotions arrive like weather — fast, huge, and hard to ride out. Maybe you've been told you have borderline traits, or another personality disorder, and the word itself felt like a life sentence. Or maybe nobody's named it; you just know the same story keeps repeating with different people.
Here's what I believe, and what the evidence supports: personality patterns are not concrete. They were learned — often in environments where they were the best available way to cope — and what was learned can be worked on. It isn't fast, and I won't pretend otherwise. But slow, real change beats another decade of the same loop.
I'm based in Orangeville and serve clients across Dufferin County — and with virtual sessions, anywhere in Ontario. My background includes clinical work in addiction and rehab settings, so I've sat with people carrying a great deal. Nothing you bring in will shock me, and none of it gets you judged.
This work is a longer road, and it starts with a steady one: a consistent, honest therapeutic relationship where we can look at the patterns together — including when they show up between us. Trust gets built by showing up, week after week, storm or no storm. That's not a flaw in the process; that is the process.
Practically, we work on three things: understanding where the patterns came from and what they're protecting, building skills for the emotional waves (riding them out without the reactions you regret), and changing how relationships go — saying what you need before the blowup, and repairing after conflict instead of burning the bridge.
I'm strength-based, which matters here more than anywhere: you are a whole person, not a diagnosis with a commute. We'll build on every capacity you already have — and there are more of them than the hard days let you see.
Early sessions are about the patterns themselves — across relationships, across years — and what they're connected to. No jargon, no judgment. Just an honest look, together, at what's actually happening.
Then we build skills for the hard moments: riding out emotional waves, pausing before the reaction you regret, communicating needs clearly, and repairing after conflict. Practiced between sessions, so they become yours.
Over time — measured in months, honestly — the swings get smaller, relationships get steadier, and your sense of yourself gets more solid. We check in on progress together and adjust as we go.
All sessions are currently offered virtually, available anywhere in Ontario.
No. If the patterns are making your life harder, that's reason enough to start. If you do have a diagnosis — borderline personality disorder or another — we work with it as information, not identity. Either way, you don't need the right label to deserve support.
Yes. This is one of the most hopeful findings in modern therapy research: personality disorder patterns respond to consistent, long-term work. I'll be honest that it's gradual — but gradual change compounds, and the people who stick with it describe lives that look genuinely different.
All sessions are currently virtual, available anywhere in Ontario. Many of my clients find it easier to open up from their own space — and there's no commute, no waiting room, no parking to worry about.
Usually longer than a quick tune-up — these patterns took years to build, and they unwind over months of steady work. We review your progress together regularly, so you'll always know what we're working on and why. No fixed program, no pressure — just an honest pace.
These patterns often overlap with other struggles. You might also find these helpful:
