Taking Honest Stock
Early sessions map what's actually going on — the demands, the drains, and the things you've been telling yourself you "should" be able to handle. No judgment. Just an honest picture.
"You can't pour from an empty cup."
If you're running on empty — exhausted in a way sleep doesn't fix, dreading Mondays (and Tuesdays, and…) — you're not weak. You're burned out. And burnout is something we can work through, together. I'm Edward Davey, a Registered Social Worker and Psychotherapist (RSW, MSW) — let's get you back to feeling like yourself.
Burnout doesn't arrive all at once. It creeps in: the Sunday-night dread that starts ruining Saturdays. The exhaustion that a full night's sleep doesn't touch. The cynicism about work you used to care about. Snapping at people you love for no good reason, then feeling guilty about it.
Here's what a lot of people get wrong about burnout: it's not a personal failure, and pushing harder isn't the cure. Burnout is what happens when demands outrun recovery for too long — and the way out isn't just "coping better." It's an honest look at what's draining you and a practical plan to get your energy back.
I'm based in Orangeville and serve clients across Dufferin County — and with virtual sessions, anywhere in Ontario. You don't need to quit your job to start feeling like yourself again.
My approach is about recovery, not just coping. Coping is what got you this far — white-knuckling through the weeks. Recovery means actually refilling the tank: understanding what's draining you, what restores you, and how to protect your energy going forward.
Our sessions are collaborative working conversations. We'll take honest stock of your situation — work, boundaries, the stuff outside work that's piling on too — and build a recovery plan that fits your actual life. Practical tools and "homework" between sessions: small, sustainable changes, not another overwhelming to-do list.
I'm strength-based in how I work. Burnout has a way of making you feel ineffective, but the fact that you've carried this much for this long says something about your resilience. We build the way forward on that — recognizing exactly what's been hindering you, and setting a pathway toward something better.
Early sessions map what's actually going on — the demands, the drains, and the things you've been telling yourself you "should" be able to handle. No judgment. Just an honest picture.
Then we build your way back: boundaries that actually hold, recovery that actually restores, and small changes you can sustain. Practical steps, practiced between sessions.
Recovery isn't just bouncing back — it's learning to spot the warning signs early and protect your energy before you hit empty again. That's the part that lasts.
All sessions are currently offered virtually, available anywhere in Ontario.
Stress is pressure; burnout is what happens when the pressure never lets up — depletion, detachment, and feeling like nothing you do is enough. The line between them matters less than this: if work is costing you your health and your life outside it, it's worth addressing.
Absolutely. Most of my clients aren't quitting — they're staying and need it to be sustainable. We work on what you can actually control: boundaries, recovery, perspective, and the patterns that keep you running on empty.
Honest answer: it depends, and recovery isn't a straight line. But small changes add up faster than people expect — many clients notice shifts within the first few weeks. We check in on your progress regularly and adjust as we go.
All sessions are currently virtual, available anywhere in Ontario. When you're already running on empty, not having to commute to an appointment is one less drain on your week.
