"Alone we can do so little;
together we can do so much." — Helen Keller

Are You Struggling in Your Relationship?

If you and your partner keep having the same fight on repeat — or you've stopped fighting and just feel like roommates — couples counselling can help you find your way back to each other. I'm Edward Davey (RSW, MSW), and I give couples a neutral space to actually hear each other again.

When the Connection Feels Lost

Most couples don't come to counselling because they stopped loving each other. They come because the connection got buried — under the same argument on repeat, under walking on eggshells, under the feeling of talking and talking but never actually being heard.

Maybe the spark is still there but the friendship feels gone. Maybe a betrayal, a big life change, or just years of small hurts have built a wall between you. Or maybe things are "fine," but fine isn't what either of you signed up for.

Here's the good news: needing help with your relationship isn't a sign it's over. It's a sign you both think it's worth fighting for. I'm based in Orangeville and serve couples across Dufferin County — with virtual sessions, anywhere in Ontario, from the comfort of your own home.

How I Work With Couples

My office — virtual as it is — is neutral ground. I'm not here to decide who's right. I'm here for the relationship itself, and that means both of you get fully heard. My style is direct but kind: I'll name the patterns I see, with honesty and a bit of humor, so we can work on them instead of dancing around them.

Our work is practical. You'll learn to communicate differently — to actually listen, to say the hard thing without it turning into a war — and you'll practice it between sessions with real-life "homework." Not worksheets for the sake of worksheets; tools you can use at the kitchen table, in the car, in the moments that actually matter.

And I work from your strengths as a couple, not just your problems. You chose each other once. Let's figure out what's getting in the way of choosing each other now.

What Sessions Look Like

Both Sides, Fully Heard

Early sessions give each of you space to say what's really going on — without interruption, without it escalating. Often, just being truly heard for the first time in months is a turning point.

Learning to Talk — and Listen — Differently

We work on the how, not just the what: how to raise the hard topics, how to listen without getting defensive, how to disagree without damaging. Practical skills you use the same week.

Rebuilding, One Conversation at a Time

Trust and closeness don't come back all at once. We build them back in small, steady moments — and we notice and name the progress as it happens.

All sessions are currently offered virtually, available anywhere in Ontario.

Common Questions

Do we both have to want to come?

It works best when you're both willing — but one partner starting the conversation is completely fine. Often, the hesitant partner just needs to see that the space is fair and neutral. The free consultation is a good way to find out.

Will you take sides?

No. I'm not here to declare a winner. My job is the relationship — making sure both of you are heard, naming the patterns that keep you stuck, and helping you build something better together.

What if we're thinking about separating?

Counselling can still help. Sometimes the work leads to a stronger relationship; sometimes it brings clarity that parting is the healthier path. Either way, you'll make that decision with open eyes instead of in the middle of a fight.

How much does couples counselling cost?

A 60-minute couples session is $180. Many extended health benefit plans in Ontario cover services from a Registered Social Worker — check with your provider. And the first step, a 15-minute consultation, is always free.
