First, We Map It
Early sessions are about naming the change honestly — what ended, what's beginning, and what's hardest right now. No jargon, no judgment. Just an honest look at where you actually are.
"When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves." — Viktor Frankl
A career change, a separation, a new baby, an empty nest, retirement, a loss — even the changes you chose can knock you sideways. You don't have to navigate the in-between alone, and you don't have to have it figured out before you ask for help. I'm Edward Davey, a Registered Social Worker and Psychotherapist (RSW, MSW). Let's sort out what comes next, together.
Transitions have a particular kind of hard: the old life is over (or ending), the new one isn't built yet, and you're standing in the hallway between them. Meanwhile everyone around you expects you to be fine by now — especially if the change was “good news.” A promotion. A baby. A fresh start. Nobody hands you a script for the grief that comes bundled with growth.
And it is grief, often — for the role you had, the routine you knew, the version of life you'd pictured. Add the practical chaos (new schedules, new finances, new everything) and it's no wonder sleep, mood, and motivation take the hit first.
I'm based in Orangeville and serve clients across Dufferin County — and with virtual sessions, anywhere in Ontario. Wherever you're reading this from, help is closer than you think.
My approach is collaborative and practical. First, we sort the change into its real pieces: what's actually over, what's genuinely beginning, and what's just unknown — because unknowns feel enormous until they're named. We make room for the grief without letting it drive, and we don't rush you past it with toxic positivity.
Then we build for the season you're in: routines that hold when everything else is shifting, big decisions broken into smaller ones, and homework between sessions that's concrete — one form, one call, one honest conversation at a time. Small steps, taken on purpose, are how a new chapter actually gets built.
I'm strength-based, which here means one simple reminder we'll return to: you have survived every transition of your life so far — a perfect record, even on the days it didn't feel like one. We'll use what got you through those to get you through this.
Early sessions are about naming the change honestly — what ended, what's beginning, and what's hardest right now. No jargon, no judgment. Just an honest look at where you actually are.
Then we build steadiness for the in-between: routines, decision-making in smaller pieces, and practical next steps you can actually take this week. Practiced between sessions, so they become yours.
Over time, the goal shifts from getting through it to building what's next — deliberately, at your pace, in a direction you chose. Change happened to you; the response gets to be yours.
All sessions are currently offered virtually, available anywhere in Ontario.
Maybe — some transitions settle on their own. But if it's costing you sleep, mood, work, or relationships for more than a few weeks, support tends to shorten the hallway considerably. The free consultation is a low-stakes way to talk it through and decide together.
Yes. Grief is part of most transitions — not only after a death, but after a divorce, a diagnosis, a job loss, or a life stage ending. If you're mourning something real, it deserves room in the conversation, not a pep talk past it.
All sessions are currently virtual, available anywhere in Ontario. Many of my clients find it easier to open up from their own space — and there's no commute, no waiting room, no parking to worry about.
That happens more often than people admit, and it says nothing about you. My approach is collaborative and practical — we adjust together as we go. The free 15-minute consultation lets us both see if we're a good fit before you commit to anything.
